The UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Gauhati University (formerly UGC-Academic Staff College) is to cater to the needs of the teachers/ principals, research scholars/non-academic staff and to enhance their knowledge/skills through systematic course work and methodologies. Besides, it also focuses on different modes of approach in order to meet the challenges of life, to become not merely a trained professional but also a better citizen. The UGC has been vested with the responsibilities of providing funds and that of coordination, determination and maintenance of standards in institutions of higher education, Promoting and coordinating university education, Determining and maintaining standards of teaching, examination and research in universities, Framing regulations on minimum standards of education. The core academic staffs will perform the various functions outlined above synergistically with CEC-EMRCs and Centers established under PMMMNMTT. UGC- Human Resource Development Centre of Gauhati University. Since the inception, it has been devoting itself to the Professional Development training of university and college teachers, Principals’ and Academic-administrators, Non-teaching Staffs, Ph.D. Scholars, and also for other academic people.  UGC-HRDC, GU has its credit in maintaining financial accounts regularly  and properly; submits  ‘Audited Statement of Expenditure’ along with ‘Utilization Certificate’ to the UGC and concerned authority properly and regularly in time.  Besides the local C/A, the Local Fund Audit of Govt. of Assam has also regularly audited the accounts. The present audits of the accounts are completed up to March 2019. NAAC Accreditation and Ranking: The UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Gauhati University has been awarded as “Performer” (8th rank in NAAC Feb. 2012).
