The UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (formerly known as Academic Staff College) of Gauhati University was established in the year 1987-88 during the VII Plan by the University Grants Commission as a follow-up measure of the National Policy of Education, 1986. The HRDC-GU being the 1st centre in the entire NE region of India for teacher education in Higher Education, is in the 33 years of existence has been serving as the meeting ground for teachers and intellectuals belonging to diverse disciplines, religions and ethnicity, diverse cultural and socio-economic background of the region.
